Transportation Services earns Oregon EcoBiz recertification

Transportation Services continues its commitment to environmental protection by recertifying with EcoBiz, a voluntary program for businesses and public agencies in Oregon.

Representatives from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, the City of Salem and the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center conducted the recent recertification.

EcoBiz requires that auto repair facilities go above-and-beyond industry practices by properly storing waste and hazardous liquids, preventing spills, reducing the use of toxic chemicals and training staff.

Transportation Services originally earned certification in 2002, the first school district transportation maintenence shop to do so. Since then, staff has continued to grow and improve practices and policies.

Some examples of the commitment to evnironmental protection noted by the certification team include:

  • Reducing hazardous solvent use by 100%
  • Replacing incandescent lighting with high efficiency bulbs
  • Reducing paper use by installing a projected message board and fleet management software

The Transportation department is committed to finding new ways to reduce waste and help protect the environment in our community. For more information, contact Transportation Services at 503-399-3100.
