The public is invited to review and give feedback on the proposal for new attendance area boundaries. The boundary changes will create an attendance area for the new school, and adjust attendance areas for Hazel Green, Hoover, Middle Grove, Miller, Scott, Swegle and Auburn elementary schools. The changes could also affect the middle and high school assignments for students who live in these elementary school attendance areas.

The new elementary school is being constructed with funds provided by the $242.1 million construction bond approved by voters in 2008.

SCHOOL BOARD VOTES ON SMALL SCHOOLS PROPOSAL TUESDAY
On Tuesday, December 13, The School Board will vote on a proposal to repurpose Hazel Green and Rosedale elementary schools. The Board is considering the proposal to help offset a projected $20 to $25 million shortfall for the 2012-13 school year. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Services Center, 2575 Commercial St. SE. The Board will hear public testimony during the Audience Communications portion of the agenda. DISTRICT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT REPORT AVAILABLE
The new issue of the district's success report is available online and in schools. Progress Toward Success 2011 details student achievement data, demographics and graduation rate information. Highlights include gains in reading and math, and seven of eight high schools posted gains in graduation rate. The publication also describes the district's commitment to the vision that all students graduate and are prepared for a successful life. NOMINATIONS FOR NEW SCHOOL NAMES CLOSE NOVEMBER 30
All parents, students, staff and the community are invited to suggest names for the two new elementary schools opening in Salem next fall. The new schools will be open for students in 2012. One is being constructed in East Salem near Cordon Road and Sunnyview Road, and another near Madras Street in South Salem on the former Battle Creek Golf Course property. Nominations are being accepted through November 30, 2011. The School Board will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. at Student Services, 2575 Commercial St. SE. The meeting is open to the public.
