Special Education Advisory Council
What is the Special Education Advisory Council?
The council was formed in the summer of 2001 to serve as a connection between parents of special needs students and Salem-Keizer staff. The council has 17 members, 9 of which must be parents of special needs children. The rest is made up of school district personnel, agencies and other interested parties. The council is part of Salem-Keizer Public Schools and it reports to Ruth Gelbrich, Director of Student Services.
Projects of the Special Education Advisory Council
The council serves the school district in a number of ways - providing feedback and input on issues related to Special Education and helping to connect families with special needs children with District staff. The council also shares information at each meeting. Presentations have included topics such as No Child Left Behind Act, Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education programs, and much more.
